I remember taking my first SoulCycle class thinking MAYBE I would do it once a week. I was sore for DAYS after my first ride. Walking into the studio, I am excited for the feeling of when class over. Elation and empowerment to be my best self is how I walk out of that dark room. As a working mom, with a side hustle business, my mind is always full of mini task lists and things to do. Pure mental clarity for me is hard to acheive, but at SoulCycle I can truly tune out from the world outside the doors and ride to be better than when I walked in.
WHAT IS SOULCYCLE?
Read my first article about SoulCycle here. I can tell you that for me, SoulCycle is an experience not just in pushing yourself for a great workout, but challenging your mental and physical strength to be the best version of you.
THE FIRST FEW RIDES
The first few rides for me I feel like I was flailing around just trying to get through class. Even as a newbie, I felt welcomed and the staff were helpful as I learned how to set up my own bike. The Instructors (really they are MUCH MORE) are great at explaining the various moves. I also followed them on Instagram and would tag them in my posts and stories. I got such encouraging responses, which is pretty cool in my opinion.
These first few rides taught me to challenge myself and not give up but to TRY. With each ride I realized I was getting better and these workouts were the jump start I needed in addition to the gym to help move the scale again.
10 RIDES IN
Here’s what I know about myself. I know that for my own self-care I NEED this time. It shows that I make myself and my health a priority in this life. And I am not ashamed of that AT ALL. The studio is a sanctuary that only those who ride understand. I remember thinking I would never be those “hardcore” riders, but now I feel like my journey is that. I know my goal to get to 100 rides. I am upping with more resistance. I feel my body slowly changing. I feel my legs and arms getting toned. I’m losing weight (was previously plateaued with the standard gym routine).
Most of all, I find that I happier with myself and this life. And if there are things not making me happy, I make the changes I need to. Today’s ride in particular, the Instructor said “Make other’s people lives better because yours is.” It was about spreading more good in the world, which is a life lesson for ALL, no matter who you are.
TAKE A RIDE
You wanna give SoulCycle a try? Use my referral link here to find a location and class for you. I love themed rides. I mean, how can you not be excited when you see Britney v. Lady Gaga or Michael v. Janet Jackson on the schedule? Today I did Soul Survivor, which is 1 hour v. the normal 45 min class time. My next goal is to try 90 min or the Soul + Abs class.
I’ve learned to be confident in myself and who I am now. When you find something that makes you feel like that, don’t ever let it go.
