Instagram stories are a fun feature. Did you know you can strategically use these for your small business? Learn more about Instagram stories and read my tips for how highlight stories and your business.
What are Instagram stories?
Instagram stories allows for you to share multiple stories and videos in a slideshow format. These stories do not appear on a profile grid or feed. There is bar of profiles with stories on top of your feed, or you can view by clicking on someone’s profile photo. Stories disappear after 24 hours. You can write text, use gifs, and various filters for fun.
Highlights are permanent collections of Instagram Stories that live on your profile. If you have a business, these are a perfect way to highlight different products, get funnel traffic, or market yourself. How to Highlight
First, you’ll create your story like normal. But you’ll want your first image to be a creative cover photo. I used Canva to create a cover using my branding – logo and font. When you upload a story, there is an option on the bottom right that says “highlight” with a heart.
Click on that and you can add to whichever highlight category.
This is now viewable on your profile.
What should you highlight?
This would depend on your small business. I am a LuLaRoe Retailer. So far on my highlights, I have a “getting to know me” section with some cool templates. I recently just added photoshoot outtakes. (You can read my article about my photoshoot HERE). I will also create one to showcase some of my favorite outfits.
I’ve seen other people highlight product use tips, categories, clothes styles, do tutorials, etc. If you can think of it, you can do it. Think about your business and your target customer and what content would benefit them most.
