Having a blog can be rewarding. I often get asked, how do you decide what to write about? Sometimes my subjects are ones I’ve thought about for a while but other times it could something spontaneous that I think could be an excellent blog post. Here are some things to consider when deciding what to blog about.
First, what is your blog geared toward? Common types are lifestyle, food/recipes, and small business. What is your goal and focus? My concept was a lifestyle blog, where I could write about a little of everything. Read my article about how my blog was born. I try to balance my article subjects – my direct sales LuLaRoe fashion business, mom life and mom-ing and, just life in general when I get in inspired to share about something.
Is there a trending topic right now in your area? In your business, is there a new product or tips you can give? In my business I try and share helpful business tips and focus on styling, especially when new products are launched. For parenting articles, is there some current event that is important to talk about? Or if you are in a mom group or at playdates, what are moms talking or asking about? Products? Advice? One of my recent articles was about the Instant Pot, the viral appliance making pressure cooking easier for people.
I enjoy browsing Pinterest. Are there topics trending in your feed that could be good post inspiration? My feed right now is a of fashion, food, and motivation… all of which I post about a lot on social media. Sometimes I’ll click on interesting pins, and the related content could be great article inspiration.
Once you have a topic in mind, just start writing. From there, add in your graphics, links, and… Congratulations! You’ve written a blog post.
